About Us
Movement of Youth is a comprehensive educational and mentoring program built to expand educational opportunities for diverse high school students in the Durham Public Schools System. Targeting only 11 students in 2006, Movement of Youth has grown to impact over 100 college and high-school students.
Movement of Youth encourages diverse high school students, who have demonstrated academic promise, to pursue higher education. The program is designed to enhance academic performance, develop strong interpersonal skills, build leadership skills, and establish a positive support network — all to assist students in their desire for higher education.
Ninth-, Tenth-, and Eleventh-graders in the Durham Public Schools System can apply for participation in the program. In order to be eligible for participation, students must possess a recommended GPA of 2.5 or above. Upon successful completion of an application process, students gain admission to the program.
Overtime, Movement of Youth will create a learning environment that will be an invaluable resource to young people, aspiring mentors and the community at large. We are committed to educational excellence and equal access for all students. Our investment in minority students today is an investment in America’s future.
